Write a paper that explains how women and gender have shaped American history.
This week you have learned about gender as a category of historical analysis and patriarchy as an organizing principle in society. Like racism, patriarchal values are deeply ingrained in our social institutions, impacting people people of all genders as they impose on organic growth and development. This week, in addition to considering women specifically, I would like you to also reflect on your experiences as a young American. In what ways do gendered expectations shape your everyday life, even if not consciously? How do they reflect what Enloe argues in her article about the persistence of patriarchy?
