Part 1 -Project Planning Journal
Evaluation and Assessment of your Learning Plan
The Project Planning Journal – you will critically assess practicum teaching
experiences to guide and inform practice following the Project Approach, Three Phases.
The assessment process will include- evaluation of a Big Idea, peer and/or mentor
collaborations, research, adaptations, and documentation, extensions, and modifications.
SLO 1. Complete the Project Planning Journal- Phase I, Phase II and
Phase III
The purpose of this assignment is to provide students with leadership and collaboration
experiences as they critically assess, evaluate, and revise an Integrated Learning Plan.
The Learning Plan will be revised following the Three Phase structure of the Project
Approach from the textbook Young Investigators. The assignment will document the
progression of strategies used to extend, design, develop early learning activities,
pedagogical approaches, developmentally appropriate practices, and child development
theory. This assignment will guide and inform individual student practice. The process
will include an in-depth group assessment and documentation of how to extend the
original Learning Plan following the Three Phases (digital version) of the project
approach.
*Note-This assignment is intended to provide students the opportunity to illuminate
effectiveness of curriculum, revise and evaluate a negotiated curriculum, enhance
pedagogical strategies, and develop leadership and collaboration skills. Students are
encouraged to use documentation from a CFE 201 learning plan as a guide.
Getting Started- Before you delve into the documentation within the Planning Journal,
take time to discuss your topic with your mentor teacher.
Things to consider-
• What are you considering for your Learning Plan? This could be your Big Idea from 201.
• Critique & evaluate the effectiveness in the prior plan.
• What questions will you ask the children?
• Based on your observation of the children identify the teaching pedagogy you will
implement?
• Identify the specific standards from the California Preschool Learning Foundations that are
being addressed.
• What do you know about the topic?
• What would you like to know about this topic?
• Identify possible DRDP measures.
• How will your plan support and reflect the classroom goals and objectives?
• List any knowledge, skills, or other curricular areas/learning standards that might be met with
this topic.
Each student and/or group will collaborate (if working as a group) in the process of compiling
content to complete the Project Planning Journal. A digital version will be provided. Additional Documentation must be uploaded into your Project Planning Journal
Be mindful that some of the journal content requires additional documents. E.g., observations,
work samples, etc.
Also, pages 8 through 15 relate to KWHL charts and Planning Webs (aka-
anticipatory/brainstorming).
Within the content of the Journal, you will complete and include an in-depth, color-coded
planning web of your topic, which includes the content areas listed below- A-L Content Areas
