What led to the birth of the social work profession?

The two movements, the Charity Organization Society (COS) led by Mary Richmond and the Settlement House Movement led by Jane Adams, and these two movements significantly differ in philosophy and method. You will research and write on the contributions of Mary Richmond and Jane Adams to the field of social work. Be sure to provide a philosophical and methodology Comparison of the type of services provided by the early Charity Organization Society such as the friendly visitors who provided moral uplift and eventually became case workers. Whereas, the Settlement Movement in contrast focused on having volunteers who would live among the poor and provided self-help and mutual aid, and today the settlement houses are what are now considered community centers.
