Week 1 Proposed Project Proposal

For the Week 1 Project Proposal assignment, you will build on the research conducted in the Week 1 Proposed Project Firm assignment. You will now begin conducting in-depth research of the selected firm. Read and document important information about the firm, its stock information (NYSE, NASDAQ, AMEX, etc.), its financial results (annual report/10-K, SEC EDGAR), and its overall earnings. Read and document newspaper articles, magazine articles, journal articles, and other secondary sources (websites/databases) that will help you better understand your firm, its competitors, and its industry.

Your goal is to begin putting together a list of available sources on your firm that will help you see the whole picture of your firm. When you finish your in-depth research, you will write about 5 important things you learned and 5 problems you discovered. This information will also be used when you create your work plan.

Task 1: Read and document a minimum of 5 scholarly or professional sources in APA style.

Task 2: Reflect on the information found in your research and identify a minimum of 5 important things you learned, i.e., industry weaknesses, competitor threats, trends, economic/risk factors, future opportunities, etc. When writing about the 5 important things you learned, integrate how each of these items learned will help you solve a problem, address a situation, or fulfill a need at the selected firm. The write-up of each of the 5 items should be a paragraph in length. This means you should have a minimum of 5 paragraphs for your 5 items. Be sure to cite from the 5 sources found in ‘Task 1’. In the end, you should have 5 important things you learned, 5 relevant problems, and 5 scholarly or professional sources.

TIP: In researching the selected firm, you will need to keep in mind that you are not an advocate for the firm but instead are an objective source of information for upper management. When making recommendations for upper management, think in terms of what they need to know in order to improve the firm’s overall performance. Keep your intended audience and the overall purpose in mind at all times.
