Write a character analysis (when you evaluate a character’s traits, their role in the story, and the conflicts they experience) of one of the characters in the stories we read.

1. Write a comparison essay where you compare two characters from two stories you read in this section. Make sure to include some of the terms from the character section of the text and use them properly in the essay. Explain how they are similar using examples from the stories.
2. Write a character analysis (when you evaluate a character’s traits, their role in the story, and the conflicts they experience) of one of the characters in the stories we read. Use examples from the story to prove your points.
3. Select a story that is not in Ch. 11; discuss how setting affects the plot of the story. Does it create conflict, crisis, or force characters to act a certain way that effects the events or outcomes of the story.
4. In “The Storm”, the there are many symbols that death is part of the story, choose another story that use significant symbols and explain what they represent.
5. In several stories we read, the characters were trapped. They were trapped by circumstance, social roles or their own limitations. Write an essay explaining what trap a character or characters were in and then add your own ideas about how he/she may escape.
6. Theme is the dominant idea in writing. Choose any story from the this section, excluding the stories from Ch. 15. Identify the theme of the story and use examples from within the story to reinforce your idea.
7. After reading “The Storm” page 199, discuss how the weather influences the actions of the story. Use quotes from the story to prove your point.
