The Paradox of Googleplex: Closed Ecosystem in an Open Architecture.

In my research paper, I examine the concept of Open Architecture through a case study of the Google Headquarters, known as Googleplex, located in Mountain View, CA. Initially, I intended to argue that the Googleplex embodies Open Architecture by effectively addressing its critics. However, upon closer examination, I find that while the Googleplex presents itself as open, it may actually be considered closed due to its comprehensive facilities that fulfill employees’ needs, blurring the boundary between work and personal life. I will briefly introduce the contrast between traditional and open architecture before delving into how the abundance of amenities on the Googleplex campus contradicts the principles of open architecture.
