What major ideas or thematic concepts does the poem convey, and how are those ideas presented?

Unit II Poetry Test Poetry Unit Test Your poetry test will include two sections – the first one requiring you to analyze a poem from our poetry module and the second one requiring you to analyze a poem I did not assign but that was written by one of the poets whose work you are already familiar with; this is an advantage, in that the poem will likely develop a theme we have already examined in our class discussions.

More specifically, you will be asked to write two short essays that address some of the questions below:
Who “speaks” in the poem? How would you characterize this speaker, his/her tone or attitude, and state of mind?
What major ideas or thematic concepts does the poem convey, and how are those ideas presented?

How does the poet’s language help illustrate the theme(s) of the poem? What kind of diction (words) does the poet use to enhance the effect of the poem?
What imagery does the poet use? Are there any patterns that emerge from the poem that you find interesting or particularly compelling/powerful?
Important:
The test will include 2 short essays (each about 300 words long, or around three very well-developed paragraphs). Keep in mind that the test will be timed (2 hours total), so do not start it unless you are ready. You are required to type your responses directly into a text box (without exiting the Canvas browser).
