Has there been a point in your life that you felt that you had a negative experience with play (has there been a dark side) ?

The book talks about a family man who was addicted to gambling because he always thought his luck was going to turn around. Let’s say someone got addicted to coloring because they thought they would be happy if they finished a coloring book. They constantly colored every day and would cancel plans to finish another coloring book. Would coloring be considered an example of a play turning bad?


On pages 178-180, the book mentions “self-handicapping” about sports and competitions in adults. Do you think that self-handicapping happens more or less in sports compared to just everyday life?
