Review the following scenario based on an actual healthcare event:
Beth has worked as a patient financial services representative for a health system based in Oakland, California for nearly seven years. During COVID-19, Beth began working remotely from her home in Oakland, California. Beth’s pay, including tax withholdings and benefits, was calculated based on Oakland, California being her home city and state.

In March 2022, as vaccination rates increased and prevalence and incidence rates of COVID decreased, Beth and her husband decided to relocate to New Orleans, LA. Given that Beth is working remotely, Beth did not inform the Human Resources department of her move. Beth experienced health issues that required her to undergo a total hysterectomy. When Beth received the bill of more than $25,000, she contacted her HR department to determine why her insurance did not cover the cost of her procedure. The HR Director informed Beth that she did not inform HR of her move and that she would have to pay the bill out of pocket as the health insurance for the health system does not extend to New Orleans, LA.
