Asiana Airlines is facing bankruptcy.
So, if South Korea’s No. 1 airline, Korean Air, goes ahead with its acquisition of No. 2 airline, Asiana Airlines, it will become the world’s 10th largest airline, with revenues of $15 trillion and assets of $40 trillion.
According to current media reports, the acquisition will take the form of a full merger between Korean Air and Asiana, rather than Asiana remaining as a subsidiary. Korean Air’s stake in Asiana is expected to be acquired as early as 2021, after which Korean Air will operate Asiana as a subsidiary and prepare for integration, with the goal of fully merging Asiana in 2022 or 2023.
