According to the guests in the video, what does “To Prisoners” by Gwendolyn Brooks argue for prisoners to do?

An introduction that defines your view of some type of imprisonment (that does connect to what the speakers discuss), ending with a thesis that includes the reasons “why” that will be explored in the body.
Body paragraphs with topic sentences that directly relate to your thesis’s reasons/rationale for its main idea.
The minimum is our standard: 5-pages. If you wish to pass, remember to not do less than five (5-7 is standard).
A minimum of four supporting quotes: one from Brooks (written text above and in video), at least two from different speakers in the video, and one from the database to be used only in your refutation to counter those who would oppose the empathic view of a prisoner’s plight (Cite in MLA). Ideas from the video source should be a large component of the analysis/ideas discussed in relation to Brooks. Remember, as far as the quotes, this only a minimum; you can always use more quotes. Also, you must have class support from the ethics section, along with either a connected current event or personal example. No outside research or generalized papers.
Your critical thinking on those quotes to support your topic sentences/thesis. This should be detailed analysis. Don’t forget to focus on the video content, add current or world events, personal experience, class ideas from the ethics section, and/or other evidence that supports.
DO NOT write a generalized essay on the prison system. This would not be passing. Stick to the video/guest speakers and the ideas of ethics and empathy when we consider those imprisoned and suffering.
A refutation where you successfully counter-argue those who would disagree with an ethical/empathetic view towards imprisonment. Add expert database support for this position there.
A conclusion that meaningfully sums up all of the main ideas you present and ends powerfully.
A correctly formatted MLA Works Cited page with the video, Brook’s poem, and the one database source (and class source). These need to match your in-text citations, which should also have proper format.
Be sure to proofread and edit a few times before you submit the essay.
Don’t forget to use MLA throughout, and TITLE your paper with something creative (that also has appropriate cap rules).
