Acute Angle-Closure Glaucoma

Part 1:
Your patient has been prescribed two new medication for the diagnosis you have been assigned. You are the nurse responsible for teaching your patient about these new medications.
Begin by providing a brief explanation of the pathophysiology, the typical treatment: lifestyle modifications, procedures, and the classes of medications used to treat this condition. Explain what dietary changes the patient will need to make or what type of diet the patient should be on (i.e. DASH diet).

Next, two medications that are commonly prescribed for that diagnosis have been assigned to you. Explain how your patient should take the medication (dose, time of day, on an empty stomach, etc.), what labs will need to be monitored and why, what nursing interventions and assessments will need to take place, what the patient should expect from taking the medication (therapeutic effect, time until effectiveness, adverse effects), what your patient should look out for or report to the physician. Lastly, any other teaching you would need to perform. Use lay person/simple language.

Part 2:
Take the assigned medication and develop an educational brochure for a patient and their families. Brochure will cover all necessary information that a patient needs in order to have a layman’s understanding of the medication. Be creative with the design and writing of the piece to make the information engaging and understandable for the patient.

Name of medication
What it’s used for
How it works
Administration of the medication
Anticipated side effects

Pertinent information the patient need to know while taking this medication (precautions, lifestyle changes, interactions, monitoring, lab monitoring, etc.) Much of this information can be found in your textbook or drug book. You should also use reliable outside sources to provide the most up-to-date information. Use APA format to cite all sources. part 1 medication Acetazolamide, Timolol Maleate (Eye drops) part 2 teaching
