Specific Step 1: Review Materials
Before proceeding with the assignment, review the following materials:
Chapters 2 and 3 in the textbook.
PowerPoint presentations for Chapters 2 and 3 available under Course Materials on Blackboard (BB).
PowerPoint presentations on Conducting Literature Review also available under Course Materials on BB.

Step 2: Choose a Topic
Select a topic related to crime or criminal justice. Ensure the topic is not too narrow or too broad, described in two or three words.

Step 3: Identify Articles
Develop search queries such as keywords, synonyms etc., relevant to the selected topic.
Use Boolean Operators (AND, OR, BUT) and parenthesis () to search for relevant articles.
Go to the JJAY electronic library webpage.
Identify 5 peer-reviewed articles published after 2010. Newspaper articles or non-peer-reviewed articles, etc. will not be accepted.

Step 4: APA style for In-text Citations and References (a.k.a., bibliography)
Click HERE or APA style to familiarize yourself with APA style for in-text citations and references.
Provide references (a.k.a., bibliography) for the five selected articles in APA format.

Step 5: Create a Summary Table
Using the table provided (see below), organize the selected articles into a summary table including citation details, year/location of study, method/data/sample, purpose, and findings.

Step 6: Write the literature using MEAL strategy.
MEAL stands for Main Idea, Evidence, Analysis, and Link.
Using the table provided (see below), utilize the MEAL strategy to write literature review.
Use the table for each theme related to the selected topic.
