This week’s assigned chapter from our text, explores the notion of big ideas. Watch the video of Fred Rogers defending PBS to the US Senate in 1969. In it he says that he gives “an expression of care every day to each child” on his show Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood. His speech espouses the big ideas his show aims to explore, and in doing so, earns millions of dollars in support of the network.
Think about the big ideas in your curriculum. Why are they important? Observe the passion that comes through his words as he talks about his show. How can you sustain and encapsulate your passion about your curriculum, along with these big ideas, to enrich the lives of your students?
Then, create a Graphic Organizer using the format of your choice to brainstorm the big ideas centered around your curriculum design.
