Write a research paper outlining the top five critical public speaking abilities.
Directions: This speech allows you to call upon your own experience in order to teach the audience how to do something. The key to organizing this speech is to take it step by step. It should follow a chronological pattern. Also, try to impress us with something you think would be of special value or interest. Allow yourself to be creative. For example, we probably already know how to tie a shoe or brush our teeth! Follow instructions on Canvas to submit this assignment.
Grading: This assignment is worth 50 points.
Format: This is a recorded speech. You will use your computer or phone to record your speech, and upload it as an “Unlisted” YouTube video.
Criteria: 4-6 minutes with a visual aid. You will have a 30 second leeway, meaning that your speech at a minimum is to be 3:30 minutes and a maximum 6:30 minutes in length. You will lose 5 points per every 30 seconds you are under, and will stop watching your speech after the 6:30 mark, which means you won’t receive credit for any information I don’t get to see during your presentation.

I wanted to use this Google doc to know what your speech topics will be for the skill builder and informative speech. Please look over the speech description that is in your syllabus to help you determine what topic will be appropriate for each assignment. For convenience, I have included the descriptions for both assignments on this page. In the Google Doc embedded below, enter your name and then type in the topics you have selected for each speech.
Demonstration Speech (Skill Builder)

Informative Speech
This speech adheres to all of the characteristics we’ve discussed thus far regarding informative speaking. A critical factor in this speech is organization. The main points should be arranged in different ways such as topical, spatial etc. Demonstration speeches are not allowable for meeting this requirement. Topic selection is key in this presentation. Do not waste our time with the obvious. Search to find new and innovative ideas to share with us. Be imaginative and creative in developing your speech. Remember to be objective rather than persuasive. As one of the two major speech assignments in the course, rigor and critical thinking are essential for this assignment. Research should primarily be drawn from credible and/or scholarly publications.
