For your final formal essay, you will write an argumentative research essay of 5-7 pages on a controversial issue of your choice. Although you may write about any topic, be sure to pick one that is appropriate to the length and purpose of this paper. The primary goal of this paper is to show that you can adequately support your position with reliable research and organize this information effectively and convincingly. The paper must include the following:
Research from at least five reliable sources
Correct MLA, APA, or Chicago formatting throughout, including in-text parenthetical documentation
A bibliographical page formatted per MLA, APA, or Chicago style
A clear and concise thesis statement indicating your position on the topic
Clear background information about the issue and its significance
Well-focused and well-developed paragraphs arguing in favor of your position and/or refuting the opposite viewpoint
At least three properly punctuated, well-integrated quotes from your source material
All drafts of the essay must be submitted in MS Word, formatted per MLA, APA, or Chicago style.
